Let’s talk about hormones, sis. If you’re in the thick of perimenopause or menopause, you already know—it’s a wholejourney. One minute, you’re feeling fine, the next, you’re sweating like you just ran a marathon, snapping on folks, or struggling to get a good night’s sleep. Your body is changing, and while that’s natural, it doesn’t mean you have to suffer through it.

Herbs have been used for centuries to help women ride this wave with more ease, and today, I’m sharing five of my favorites—some you may know and some that come straight from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), my specialty.

My Top 5 Herbs For Balancing Hormones

Black Cohosh – The Hot Flash Tamer

This one’s an old-school favorite, especially for managing hot flashes and night sweats. Black cohosh works by mimicking estrogen in the body, which helps balance things out as your natural levels start to dip. It’s also great for mood swings and sleep disturbances, making it a must-have for navigating this phase with a little more grace.

Dong Quai – The Hormone Harmonizer

Known as “female ginseng” in TCM, dong quai has been used for centuries to support women’s health. It helps regulate estrogen levels—whether they’re too high or too low—making it a powerhouse herb for hormonal balance. Plus, it promotes circulation, which can help with those stubborn period cramps if you’re still getting cycles.

Shatavari – The Queen of Adaptogens

Shatavari is a go-to in Ayurvedic medicine, and for good reason. This herb deeply nourishes the body, supports estrogen balance, and helps with vaginal dryness (because let’s be real, that’s another symptom nobody warns you about). It also strengthens the adrenals, which is key for managing stress and energy levels.

Rehmannia – The Kidney Yin Builder

This is one of my favorite TCM herbs, especially for perimenopause. In Chinese medicine, menopause is often linked to declining Kidney Yin energy, which leads to heat symptoms like night sweats and dryness. Rehmannia is a deeply nourishing herb that helps restore balance, cools down excess heat, and supports overall vitality.

Vitex (Chasteberry) – The Mood Stabilizer

If your emotions have been all over the place, vitex is your best friend. This herb works on the pituitary gland to help regulate progesterone levels, which can ease mood swings, headaches, and even some of that brain fog that makes you forget why you walked into a room in the first place.

How to Use These Herbs

You can take these herbs in different forms—teas, tinctures, capsules, or even as part of a customized blend (which, by the way, is something I specialize in at Urban Herbin). The key is consistency. Herbs work best when taken regularly, giving your body the gentle support it needs over time.

Perimenopause and menopause aren’t something to be “fixed”—they’re part of your evolution. But that doesn’t mean you have to suffer. With the right herbs, lifestyle shifts, and a whole lot of self-love, you can move through this phase with ease and confidence.

If you’re ready to find a personalized herbal blend that fits your body’s needs, let’s talk! Urban Herbin offers custom herbal support, yoni steaming, and wellness coaching to help you nurture, heal, and rest.
